It’s Like Jet Set Radio…with Guns! #2

Date: June 4th
Start time: 8pm CT
Game: Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One)

After a clumsy start, I was able to watch a few live streams playing Sunset Overdrive and learned a lot of what I was doing wrong.

This time around, things were more fluid and there was a lot more progression! There was a lot of fixation of me eating a pepper on the live stream. I need to figure a way to defuse that.

This is very much top of mind. I’ve done a lot of research around this topic and using the 0.1bpp formula to find the right ratio https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/2dz7ru/bitrates_resolutions_and_quality

I’m going to try out 540p at 1555kbps @ 30fps tonight with Mario Kart 8, which is a fast motion game.

It’s like Jet Set Radio…with Guns!

Date: June 3rd
Start time: 8pm CT
Game: Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One)

This game has been sitting on my shelf for a very long time. I bought the game on the basis of it being like Jet Set Radio and for it’s over the top attitude. Realizing how awful of a gamer I am, I decide to do it justice and start playing. This was the mindset I had going into the game:

The tutorial is pretty long but necessary, because the controls are different. I was pretty clumsy at first, but I had a better handle of the game midway through. I didn’t realize the amount of profanities there were in the game as well. Whoops! I’ll adjust for that.

Also, the channel was raided by IAmCorgii, so a special thanks goes out to him. Really cool guy!

After some consulting on Twitter, I downscaled the stream to 480p. A lot of people will say, 480p will just look awful. After some tinkering, I can confirm yes, there are some pixels here and there, but the quality is acceptable. On mobile, it looks really great and that was the whole purpose of the change. My mobile audience was having buffering issues with my stream, so I needed to find  a way to accommodate for them. I’m very happy with the initial result.

With the resolution going to 480p, I’m considering the idea of exporting not only highlights, but the full streams to YouTube. It’s a great way to archive the streams without the quality being too degraded. Looking into this more.

Changes to the Schedule and Animal Crossing!

Hey Guys!

Happy Wednesday! Just wanted to give you some quick updates on what we are doing to the schedule.

Over the last month, you would see on average 6 – 7 broadcasts a week. Being brand new to broadcasting, I wanted to drive right into it and learn learn learn! With the hard work came results. I’m very very happy with the community that we are building and I’ve met people that I would have never crossed paths without Twitch.

With that said, I continue to find ways to improve the broadcast to make it better. To move in this direction, I’m establishing a more structured schedule. I am making Tuesdays and Fridays as default days off for me.

One of the things that I did to improve my broadcasting ability is being a viewer like every one of you. Personally, I miss it! Another reason for the days off is to ensure I do not burn out. Being proactive to ensure my stamina is important!

Finally, I will use the time to continue to work on the stream. This means higher quality content and ways to make your experience even better.

Will this makes Tuesdays and Fridays off limits? No way, If I feel up to streaming last minute, I will be sure to offer those updates on my Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/tinner10tin)

Another update I wanted to make, I will be broadcasting Animal Crossing regularly on Sundays. The default start time will be 1pm Central time, which gives some love to the folks out in Europe! You guys made it clear you want to see more Animal Crossing and I’m happy to share this news to you all.

Final update, because I’m taking away 2 days from the weekly schedule, I plan on experimenting with a 7:30pm start time. Not set in stone!

Let me know if you have any questions. As always, thank you so much for your support. It’s been real swell!

Mario is like Nook, He wants all the Bells errr Stars!

Date: June 1st
Start time: 8pm CT
Game: Super Mario 3D World (Wii U)

It’s already June! Where does the time go? We revisited the World that is Super Mario 3D. I have beaten the standard game and I made a commitment to Blahziter that I will continue to play until I claim every star. We started the night off with 186 Stars. For the most part, I was able to complete most of the stages, some were harder than others.

End the stream on 218. PROGRESS!

Revlo continues to be a hit with the chat. There were a few comments requesting for a cooldown. I’ve adjusted the betting minimum to 5 coins from 1 coin. We will see how that affects the rate of gambling. I’ve also limited the max bet to 500 coins.

I also adjusted the level of the gaming audio a little to loud. Reminder to self, 50% volume for Wii U games.

That Nook! He’s so Greedy!

Date: May 31th
Start time: 1pm CT
Game: Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii)

Over the weekend I did two broadcasts for Animal Crossing: City Folk. First off, in my time of streaming, I will say that Nintendo games bring the best people together. Everyone is extremely friendly. I’ve been introduced to a number of awesome individuals and all of you are the reasons why I do this regularly. It isn’t for the money that is made, because I make and take ZERO dollars. It’s not for the sake of fame, because frankly, I don’t care for it. I want to mesh with people that have great personalities that matches with my own and Nintendo games do this very thing.

With that all said, I started the first stream in the evening and I found out early on that is a huge flaw when it comes to streaming Animal Crossing, because everything is CLOSED! Luckily, I was able to do an early Afternoon broadcast the next day, since I was having company over to watch WWE’s Elimination Chamber that evening. I was happily introduce to a number of people overseas in England and in Germany. It’s really awesome to have some International flare, they were awesome to have.

The chat overall was very positive and they seem to taken a liking in the gambling system powered by Revlo.co. I wasn’t able to make a lot of progression in Animal Crossing, aside from payment of my mortgage and farming for animals for my museum. I certainly look forward to playing Animal Crossing very soon. It also opened my eyes to consider doing more streams during peak hours for people in Europe. They need love too. :)

Here are some highlights from the last 2 days:

Revlo seems to be very favored in the chat. I believe it helped make the stream a little more enjoyable with a simple luck based game. I plan on running with this from now on, unless it decides to do something completely different, which I do not expect. The stream quality was good, I noticed a few dropped frames, but nothing major. Audio levels were good. Wii audio is a little tricky.
