Did another round of Super Mario 3D World and progression and mistakes were made. To be honest, I don’t even know what world I ended up on, because Chat and I were enamored for the release of the Splatoon Beta! They released one game mode and 2 maps. The beta was available for a single hour and I definitely made use of every minute provided. The game is a fun and the stability was good. I don’t think there was any serious latency issues. Below is a nice example of one of the matches I had tonight.

Chat was wonderful and we went a little personal with who we are and learned a few embarrassing stories. I love our chats and hope they continue to bloom.

Streaming Tech

I kept all the settings the same at 540p @ 48FPS. I did up the encoding on my computer to output a better picture. Both games streamed wonderfully and I feel that I’m pretty settled with these options. I had a few comments about audio syncing working well and no complaints on buffering or freezing issues. I’ve come a long way from my 720p @ 60FPS streams to something more tidy and effective.

Bonus streaming tech news! I did some testing of Wii games on the Wii U. Despite the games being at 480p output. The games look great. I’m looking forward to introducing older Wii games.

Super Mario Bros. is a childhood classic for most, but I’ve been awful at keeping up with the series. This stream is my first real attempted at playing Super Mario 3D World. Start off, things were going well and I, again, got a load of help from chat. It shows that I can be pretty helpless :P Playing through 4 Worlds has me hyped and I decided to go ahead and stream it again tomorrow.

The following video is a fine example of what tonight’s gameplay was like: Mistakes were made, but victories are rich!

Streaming Tech

Transitioning from PC to Console is always tricky. Audio levels are different and I think there might be some mic delay. With the Wii U, I can figure a better way to listen to game audio but to plug headphones into the Wii U Gamepad. The struggle! Anyways, made it all work and was happy with the stream. You can see some studder towards the end of my stream, and it took a quick refresh of the capture card to fix. Up the frames to 48FPS. I may consider a full 60 frames and improving the encoding. The last time I tried this, the stream was pure potato. We’ll see!

Game: Don’t Starve (PC)

This stream started on a clean slate. I had died at the end of my stream of my first session of Don’t Starve. Right off the bat of this broadcast, I started farming like crazy and had a better handle of the game early on. I made it towards Day 21 before ending the stream, but not without the help of chat coming to the rescue 2 nights in a row!

There’s just so much to learn about the game, and it has me really intrigued. It’s a quality game that offers an eerie calm but challenging feel. The game is on Sale on Stream right now for $5! I highly recommend it.

Tonight was a night of progression and much more learning of the game. No notable highlights, sorry!

Streaming Tech

I was pleased with the last stream’s picture quality minus the weird web camera pixelation. I fixed the web camera picture by downscaling the resolution. I also increased the frames per second to 45FPS and it appeared to run smooth this go around. I want to experiment with faster pace games to see how they fare, but for Don’t Starve, it works well! For next steps on improving the broadcast, I’m looking to reconsider the encoding and color balance of the capture. It seems to be on the duller side.

I have mentioned in previous broadcasts that I wanted to add a new game to my gaming rotation. Tonight was my first try at Don’t Starve. Just from random videos and streams, I didn’t think this game would be too difficult. Boy, was I wrong:

As you can see, I died before Day 1 was completed. I started to show some progress in the game and I felt as things were going to turn in my favor:

After that, I leaned on chat to get tips tricks and flips on how to play the game proper.

Finally, after establishing my full dependency on chat to guide me, we show PROGRESS!

Overall, the game was a lot of fun and a great addition to the rotation. The action is slower in pace and I find it easy to lax and be focused in the game. I hope to continue to have a strong interaction with my chat.

Streaming Tech

In a previous stream, I had a few people give me feedback on buffering issues. After a deep conversation on Reddit and my own research, I made some significant changes to the stream by down scaling it to 540p resolution and reducing the bitrate (required bandwidth to stream) from 2500kbps to 2000kbps. It seems to operate as expected with little feedback around buffering. I plan on increasing my FPS from 30 frames to 45 to see if it offers a better quality to the picture. We will see! All in the sake of offering a quality stream.
